Loving Evangeline Duncan and Evangeline Linda Howard 9781551664576 Books

This second book in the Patterson-Cannon family saga and "Loving Evangeline" is every bit as wonderful as the first book. In this story the characters are the wealthy ruthless New York business tycoon, Robert Cannon and sweet, virgin widow Evangeline Shaw whose heartbreaking backstory give this heroine such gravitas. Evie is a business owner of a small marina and there are some shady and possibly illegal connections concerning the marina. Robert has followed an FBI tip that a very crooked character working for Robert's company is using the marina as drop site for stolen government documents. Unfortunately, from Robert's perspective, a lot of evidence seems to implicate Evie as a possible accomplice.

Yet there is something about the earnest, hard-working stand-offish young widow that draws the usually ice-cold Robert. Evie makes it clear from the beginning that she is no easy summer fling. Evie is the type of heroine that I adore, she is a woman who holds herself with high enough esteem not to give it up to some smooth-talking charmer. She is loyal, dignified, and resilient woman with integrity and intelligence. Robert had to work for it and when Evie found out about Robert's betrayal there was no immediate forgiveness. Evie was ready to walk away from Robert forever. I felt that his attempts to restore her trust and love was believable and I fully believed in their HEA. The lovely epilogue showing Evie and their precious baby girl Angel awaiting a Robert besotted coming home from work to his beloved family, was the epitome of a beautiful love story. "Loving Evangeline" will certainly join Duncan's Bride on my keeper shelf.

Loving Evangeline Duncan and Evangeline Linda Howard 9781551664576 Books Reviews

My immediate pull factor to this story was the passion of the hero! It was literally palpable and expressed in a way you could touch it!!! This was ultimately the greatest passion I have witnessed by far in any romance books and the hero simply bitten all the heroes I have read to this moment.

With all respect I disagree with other reviewers regarding heroin as weak and lucking back bone by allowing the hero abusing her. She was kind, considerate of others, with strong character and honesty. Quite frankly, she was one of the strongest, bravest, dignified and self respected heroins I have come across for a long time though! Her integrity was so unique and the hero was just as surprised too! How can one be critical of her when she was loyal to her dead husband for 12 years keeping her virginity and true self locked inside her, because she loved his so much when he died in front of her eyes and she wanted to cherish that love by keeping herself unavailable to any man, because she was still a virgin when married him? She did stated at the very beginning to the hero that she is the wrong women if he's looking for a summer fling! She fought the hero very hard and was not stupid. She proved to be a very strong and resistant opponent that was difficult to challenge for the hero. His very guarded control was threatened and eventfully shattered and I was pull in to the game of sensual seduction and struggle of his own emotions to keep under control, but he could not and that was the biggest delight to watch, that a women could bring him to his knees, a women not of his style or status, but with charming sweet simplicity and sharp intelligence that knocked him of his feet! Good!!! She did recognised his true exterior and hidden depths of his soul and could not be fooled with his casual pretence on the outside. I felt uncomfortable in some instances by the hero's actions and felt very angry at times with him, especially when Eve was facing so much hardship to pay her loan and was forced to sell her only memorable, precious house that reminded her of his beloved husband. Hence, his obsession and profound passion towards the heroin was so evident and felt so real, I actually looked beyond his disdainful actions and concentrated on the actual romance, because it was very hard not too, as the chemistry between them was very, raw and deep! he wanted to marry her which was for the first time in his life he ever wanted to be with a women in marriage, but he did not want to give her his whole being. Yes he was a very manipulative and controlling but the readers are underestimating him with his attitude towards the heroin; There are little things he does for her that can be easy overlooked, but nonetheless could not be undermined, and I do belief there was love and not lust, as those little things show me so much more than the big things sometimes in a romance book that looks overpowering and somewhat faked. But here let me tell you he said to her something very romantic.......

"You need to keep up your strength for tonight. She gave him a heated, slumberous look, remembering the fantasy. Why? Are you planning something special? I suppose I am he said considerably. It is special every time we make love."

I liked that the heroin in the end did not settled for the marriage without love, as its like without a part of the hero and she just would not accept that only one part of him, because she new she was worth so much more and she proved to him that and she wanted all of him. The hero admitted his wrong to her and was left with ultimate choice LOVING EVANGELINE WITH HIS WHOLE BEING OR LOOSING HER AND GO BACK TO HIS LIVE HE SO MUCH AS DESPISE NOW!

He was a very controlling and locked emotionally man, but the passion for her was too strong and he realised it his life will never be the same without his Evangeline and he succumbed to it.
Robert's character is clearly outlined in Howard's book, Duncan's Bride and is thoroughly explored and developed in this sequel; it was nice the way the author connected and occasionally brought the reader back to that aspect of Robert's life thereby effectively intertwining both stories for a continuously effective tale. In my opinion, this gives a reader a bit of perspective into how their lives continued. Was glad author also gave her heroine solid character to withstand the plot's twists and turns and what seemed to be a betrayal on Robert's part; which only turned as a good wrap up in the end as to how he finally caved to his own needs. If author succeeds in leaving reader to want to do a re-read, it's always a winner. This book succeeds.
