Paige is one seriously messed up h. She has been victimized by her mother since the age of 13, and she has no idea how to form appropriate relationships with anyone. Aaron is a very bad man who keeps taking possession of her. They have a very twisted relationship where he keeps plucking her out of disasters while she submits to his need to control her. Hard to call it love, but something is working for them.

If you read the sample, you won't get a true flavor for the book. It feels like the events leading up to her first capture by Aaron are a different story, and there are loose ends - like the deaths of her best friends that start the book - that never get cleared up (maybe in the next installment). The book becomes dark and gritty, and she changes from tough high school girl to lost and drifting young adult. I don't generally read books that feature 18 year olds as heroines because young girls are either portrayed as crazy stupid or wise beyond their years. Paige's vulnerability and her struggle to just get by somehow make her ageless. Aaron is equally scarred by an abusive upbringing and you never know if you are going to get good Aaron or bad Aaron and he is obsessed with a virgin/whore persona he has created for her in his mind.

I was impressed by the writing, character development, and plot, and look forward to reading the next installment. I'm glad I stuck with the book past the icky high school part - this was a surprisingly good read.

Scars Book One edition by Sinden West Romance eBooks Reviews

This is a true dark book! Not one of those bubblegum dark book that are all over place now , u know the ones where the Devil turns into an angel within a few chapters! They are So unbelievably fake!!!!! Hate them! This book however is so good and it gets your blood pumping !!!
Love it
However it does ended abruptly but I didn't feel ripped off! Maybe because it was a well written book!
Warning this book contains extremely graphic and disturbing material. Rape, torture, mutilation, child abuse, sexual abuse, detailed descriptions of the material make it difficult to read. It is hard to read about so,en being so brutally treated. It also leaves you feeling unsettled and wishing you had skipped through many of the scenes or at least has a warning. Not one for a person sensitive or offended by these themes.
What amazing story couldn't stop reading it. Would have liked to see more of a background on what the mother made Rachel/Paige do as a youngster but maybe book two will tell
Great read, this writer is one of the most devious I have the pleasure to read. The Characters are well done and with just enough detail to make it easy to connect to them. The Story has the kind of twists and turns that make it very hard to put it down. Sinden West is now on my look for new books to read list for sure.
Hmmm this is a hard review to write... The plot was all over the place. I can honestly say I didn't know what was going to happen next. I could not figure out Aaron or Paige. The first half made sense. The second half... not so much. I wanted to smack Paige for being such an idiot... and Aaron was revealed to be a true psychopath. His actions didn't seem to have any meaning or any pattern. This book kept me on my toes, although there was a weird section with Dommes that I skimmed because--shocker--I didn't get it! I'm used to stories having themes and rhyme and reason. I'm used to foreshadowing, plot, and a well-crafted story.

Was Scars a well-crafted story? I would say no. There were too many stream of consciousness moments, where it seemed like the worst of humanity had it out for Paige at every turn. But I still liked it, despite myself. It was gritty, raw and unpredictable. I'm left scratching my head at the end of it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The best parts were the interactions between Aaron and Paige. I wanted to pick their brains and find out what the hell they were thinking. Everything else was pretty painful and gross and infuriating.

I kept reading, and I'm somewhat glad I did... I was glad when Aaron returned near the end. I just don't know.

I might check out more from this author, just to see if I can get any insight into what is trying to be said?? Anyway, I'm giving it 4 ambiguous stars. Would I recommend this to other dark read lovers? Yes. Maybe they'll make more sense out of it!
I think it was pretty good. I read it all in one night!
Some parts were too dark and pretty awful, but the chemistry between the main characters kept me reading.
