It's a good series. Each book is a bit formulaic, in that you get a single Ikati male who's broken, never going to be in love, then meets some woman who turns his world upside down. But the real draw of this series is not the love story of each individual book but the overall back thread that is continuing through the whole series. That's the real intriguing bit that keeps you coming back. For the most part, you can see the love story, and how it's going to play out, from a mile off, though it is still well written. The real interest, the thing that has kept me coming back, is what's going to happen to the Ikati as a species. How is she going to write the war. Who are the people behind the various factions bent on the total extinction of the Ikati. That's the real gem in this series. Don't let the predictability of the various romances turn you off. Pay attention to the bigger picture. So far, that's what's really been worth it.

I really loved these characters and the relationship that developed. Jack is a strong heroine, who is smart and funny and yes, a bit damaged emotionally, but so is Hawk. And it is steamy. It is a well written book that is hard to put down because you want to read what happens next. The end is a great set-up for what should be coming in the next book, although it was a bit of a cliff hanger (not in terms of Jack & Hawk) but with the colony. This is just an aside, but if anyone has read the Dragon Kin series by GA Aiken, the twins reminded me somewhat of the twin babies Annwyl gives birth to.
I am totally enjoying each book of this series by J.T. Geissinger. As unbelievable as it seems shape shifters seem real in each story. The very best part of their lives is they mate for life. Humans have never gotten that right. The mating of Hawk a full blooded Ikati and Jacqueline a full blooded human bring all sorts of issues to light,but their devotion to each other overcome all obstacles.
The fascinating journey into the world of shape-shifters continues to be as good as the previous books. The addiction is the beautifully described relationships that occur as the action continues around them. Each couple has their place in the scheme of things and the reference to them as the series is read keeps us involved, that and because the men are obsessively protective and completely enthralled by their women and don't we all want this. The love between Hawk and Jack is particularly sweet and hot all at the same time so it is easy to like both in this book and the others.

The other thing to like in this series is that in its own way it focuses on differences and overcoming them, and it works well. At the end it is the individual we need to look at and not judge a whole race on actions committed by one.

Oh J.T. Geissinger how I love thee. I was captured and taken prisoner from the moment I read Shadow's Edge and have been addicted to the series. Darkness Bound did not disappoint and left us with some pretty intense feelings of what is to come next in the final installment. Hawk is one of our assassins and a member of the Brazil tribe under the leadership of Alpha Alejandro. Hawk is sent out to get blackmail material on a human journalist who has swayed public opinion against the shifters. As the story unfolds they decide to bring Jacqueline back to the colony to try and per sway her to changer her opinion on the Ikati. Of course nothing goes as planned and Hawk finds himself intensely drawn to her. Jeanna and Leander are once again featured as we follow them on their journey to join the Brazilian tribe and learn about their new twin daughters abilities. Readers will be baffled by these girls and their roles in the highly anticipated final installment. The ending will leaving you counting down the days till Into Darkness.
This is the fifth book in the Night Prowler series and should be read in series order.

The Ikati shape shifters are collapsing their strongholds in an effort to remain hidden from their enemies which are comprised of governments, religious zealots, and secret organizations, most of the human race and some of their own kind. They are converging in the rainforests of Brazil.

Jacqueline “Jack” Dolan is a reporter whose recent editorial after the events in Rome has brought her to the attention of the Ikati. Her words called for their extinction, swaying public opinion, and were used by politicians to further their own agenda against the Ikati race. The Ikati are not taking this lightly, they have a plan and it just might destroy Jack who having never even met an Ikati denounced them based on the actions of one. When she does meet an Ikati it will blow her world apart and she won’t know what he is when she meets him.

Hawk Luna is an Ikati that women of both races swoon over, an illegitimate son who has never fit in with his clan but is subject to his race’s rules. He was selected to seduce Jack in an effort to get her to retract her words through blackmail. But Jack is not as expected for the woman who would write such a piece. She is complicated and there are things in her past that have damaged her. She stirs feelings in Hawk and the plan changes. Together these two will walk a dangerous path that leads to each other amidst racial politics, betrayals from within and the coming war between the species.

This series is excellent paranormal romantic suspense, superbly written. The prose is sensual, at times lyrical, the storyline riveting. The author has an amazing imagination, she interweaves subplots that accompany the romance with twists and turns that you do not see coming and that make you gasp for you can’t believe what just happened, you don’t want to stop reading for a minute. I look forward to the last book in the series and dread it at the same time for I will miss this world and the characters that J.T. Geissinger has created and shared with us. This series I will re-read throughout the coming years.
