i was looking forward to read Eric and Camille's story it was good but not as good as expected. Camillie was a big and plain girl .She was well aware of it but had liked Eric Ford as long as she had known him. He was a good friend of her brother and she felt like he treated her like a little sister. He liked Camillie but he had bouts of malaria and thought his health was a stumbling block. He also thought he was too old for her. I am like another reviewer why Camillie and her family had to take in Nell Baynes .they first found her on the street after Eric was robbed. She was beautiful and that upset Camillie.Nell also had a cousin who wanted to court Camillie. A villain makes his appearance toward the end of the book right after Camillie and Eric had an announcement to make. I will let you read for yourself to see if the villain is going to destroy Eric as planned . I also won't tell you what he did.I don't think I would read this book again not that great.

I really enjoyed this title, but I would have named it To Tempt a Groom as it seemed it was Eric who needed to be wooed. And Camilla does that by just being herself. It was interesting to read about his illness (malaria) as they didn't know much about it in those days. Now to look for a hard copy for my keepers.
The late, great Edith Layton is one of my very favorite historical romance authors. The book's a keeper and I've read it many times. I just took the opportunity to download it onto my kindle so i can have her with me when I'm travelling. Sorry we won't be getting any new books from this great lady of historicals.
Not much to say here. It was by far the most boring romance novel I've ever read. The characters were both good people with no real angst or anything motivating them. There was nothing to it other than that the hero and heroine needed to tell each other - dispassionately I might add - that they loved each other, and then get married. Boring!

I enjoyed this love story. The story line was easy to follow. The author defined her characters very well and kept to them likeness throughout the story. The author drew us into the story and allowed us experience the many emotions of her characters as they struggle with their feelings for each other. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, danger, romance and not too explicit sexual scenes.
