If you're going to have a great YA story, you need to start with a great heroine. Olina, Princess of Osolis, is a great heroine.

Sheltered in an almost-Rapunzel like way all her life by her domineering mother the Queen, forced from early childhood to hide her face from the world - even herself - upon pain of death, she longs for the time when she can be free of her mother's oppression and perhaps rule the throne.

The hot world of Osolis maintains an uneasy relationship with the icy world of Glacium, and when Olina's dalliance with a Glacian prince ends in tragedy, she finds herself taken against her will to the ice world to explain herself to the King. But who can she trust? And what is the secret that everyone seems determined to have her keep at all costs, even from herself?

I LOVED Olina. Tough yet vulnerable, and with a hilarious innocence that shines through when transported from the prim, conservative world of Osolis to the lewd, rough-and-tumble world of Glacium. I am moving right on to the second book in the series, where she can let it all hang out and kick some serious tail. (Because she can.)

Spectacular book, Ms. St. Clare. One of my favorites this year!

Fantasy of Frost The Tainted Accords Kelly St Clare Damonza com Books Reviews

This book fluctuated between 3.5 to 4 stars....the storyline was interesting and intriguing building a beautiful fantasy world...intricate world building submerged me into both these lands...the story provides a strong, independent heroine who overcomes seemingly insurmountable obstacles...the initial romance with Kendrick seemed too easy and predictable, but then the twist occurs and the story shifts in a new direction...I really enjoyed the developing relationship with Jovan....their witty banter was enjoyable to witness and the mounting chemistry will be interesting to watch evolve...finally, I remained intrigued with the mystery of the veil and the "horrors" of her reflection....all of that being said, the aspects that I struggled with were related to the flow of the story....at times it seemed choppy and disjointed leaving me emotionally disconnected to the characters' experiences...also, the majority of the writing was internal dialogue which, for me, does not permit a strong connection between the characters...I am interested to see where this story leads in the future installments, so I will be continuing forward with the series)
I suppose I liked the book more than I hated it, but it was an obvious first novel by an indie author. The spelling and grammar was awful. No flow to the writing at all. No contractions.
Character development was all right but the thing that bothered me the most was how familiar this book was to me as it felt borrowed from other books. Inspired rather. Black Dagger Brotherhood. The Blood Trail Chronicles. The Dust Lands series. I could pick out scenes and know which one had inspired the book. Which I imagine happens with authors, especially indies. A good editor would pick up on that. The language in the book was wrong for the genre too. Also, an editing issue. As a huge fantasy buff, I didn't love it. I would recommend Kyla Linde's Affiliate series over this.
Olina should have had a world of riches and privilege. Being the next in line to rule as Tatuma. However she has never even seen her own face. Forced to wear a veil by her own mother, never showing anyone her face, or even seeing it herself separates her from everyone. With few friends she is surprised to build a friendship with a visiting dignitary. Olina’s life is about to change in ways she could never have dreamed of.

I was given a copy of this book in return for a review and I am so glad I was. It is not the genre I would normally read so would have totally missed out on a great read. The synopsis warns “Warning You won't be able to put this book down.” and it was right. I am still up at almost 4am after having to finish. Olina is at first glance a weak young lady, worn down by a tyrannical mother, however as you read through the book, she begins to show her real self. Kedrick is a wonderful character but the one that intrigues me most is his brother, King Jovan. That is a deep character and I am looking forward to learning more about him in book two. There are twists and turns in this book as well as very well thought out plans of two very different worlds, the explanations and descriptions are excellent, in the fire world you can feel the heat and the sweat trickling down your back, where in the cold world you can almost see your breath coming out in puffs of smoke. I am very much looking forward to book two. Thank you Kelly for the opportunity to read such a great book.
Fantasy of Frost by Kelly St. Clare book review

Synopsis This fantasy ficton follows a young woman, Olina, who is next to come to rule. she does not live the typical life of wealth and honor as you discover how traumatic her living experience really is. She faces extreme difficulties to survive and succeed at the chance of changing their current way ruling (by her evil mother).

Review I only provided an extremely brief review because you really need to read the book! I was drawn in immediately into this fantasy world with a million questions popping up as I read along. I was intrigued with each question that was answered. I fell in love with the characters and really loved the in depth emotional connection I was able to make. I felt love, excitement, respect and a ton of heartbreak and frustration with the way Olina has suffered. This book has everything and is written very beautifully. The writing style flows nicely and it was easy to follow yet still full of descriptive language to create a very elaborate world. I fully appreciate the intricacy of this novel and would recommend this story to just about anyone. It has love, action, psychological aspects as well as female power and family love and complications.

I gave this book 5 stars because I honestly loved the entire story. I did not get bored as I often do when reading. I usually feel books have on of "filler" scattered throughout but I hung on every word of this novel!
