I rarely write reviews due to lack of time or a burning desire to read my next book. However, I felt compelled to write after reading the one star review which I thought was so unfair and almost sounded like a personal attack against the author. First, the doctor does not have a "houseboy." Second, the doctor is left at a restaurant due to an emergency. And, it is discussed that he would be upset if she coddled him by making plans to see that he get home. Third, In response to her/his comment regarding giving directions for brain surgery. It made sense that the doctor receiving the directions could actually pull it off. You or me probably not. A doctor at the end of their internship would not be outside the realm of possibilities. Plus, it is a fiction book! :) (It brought to mind the times our U.S. astronauts have had to fix or replace things on their spacecraft thousands of miles away with only someone from NASA talking them through it. This would be back in the "old days" when there was no Skype, or visually transmitted images. One had to listen intently and follow directions in order to get the job done). Fourth, in response to the reviewers "prose alert" I can only wonder if she /he read the book carefully. Here are several examples of prose and or description used by the author. 1. "unbidden image of him naked exploded in her mind", 2. "He held the silent audience in the palm of his hand.", 3. "His sarcasm stung like the tail of a whip." 4. "The timbre of her voice stroked him like a hot caress." 5. "spun around her heart like like a gossamer thread", 6. "totally stunned as her heart did somersaults". I felt the author did a wonderful job in her descriptions and in her ability to show you how the characters were feeling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Both of the main characters have major issues to work through. The author does a nice job showing how they grow and heal as individuals as well as a couple. I enjoy Ms. Lowe's sense of humor. I stumbled across this author when I read Boomerang Bride. Since then I have read several of her books. Always some degree of humor and a great lesson to be learned as well. Now, I'm off to my reading...aahhh!Tags : Sydney Harbor Hospital: Toms Redemption (Harlequin Medical, 535) [Fiona Lowe] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Sydney Harbour Hospital Tom's Redemption (Mills & Boon Medical) (Sydney Harbour Hospital - 4 of 8)
Sydney Harbour Hospital Tom's Redemption (Mills & Boon Medical) (Sydney Harbour Hospital - 4 of 8)
Sydney Harbour Hospital TOM'S REDEMPTION is author Fiona Lowe's latest offering from Mills and Boon Medical Romance releasing in April 2012.
By a quirk of fate neuro-surgeon Tom Jordan lost his eyesight. Now he is unable to operate and for him it feels like he has lost a limb. When he was sighted he kept away from relationships and emotional entanglements.
But now he doesn't want anyone's pity or sympathy. So he keeps himself aloof to the point of being rude.
Surgical registrar Hayley Grey felt herself drawn towards him. And the attraction simmering just below the surfaces was mutual between them. Will they act on this mutual attraction? Then Hayley comes up with the idea of `friends with benefits!' As she herself is not ready to commit to a relationship at this point because of her upcoming exams.
When she gets to know the man behind the blind surgeon, she falls for him hard. But will Tom return her love?
Why is Hayley scared of sleeping in the dark? For years Hayley has held herself apart from people but Tom had slipped under her guard and made a home in her heart. Now she has to come clean about her phobia. And why does Tom have this driving need to succeed? Why can't he depend on Hayley?
You just can't help but root for Tom and Hayley to get to their happy ending. I didn't want the story to end just then. But who wants a good romance to end? This story had layer upon layer of emotional and sensual tension.
Author Fiona Lowe mostly writes about small communities or outback hospitals and her stories are based in rural areas so Sydney Harbour Hospital Tom's Redemption was a pleasant surprise from her. This story was based at a big bustling city hospital and it was very realistically depicted. I knew when I picked up a Fiona Lowe title that I was going to be reading a spellbinding story which I will devour in one sitting and Sydney Harbour Hospital Tom's Redemption was no exception!
It is all about Tom's fight to find a purpose in his new life finding his true love in the process. It's a difficult task for him to achieve since his goals have always been the highest in demanding perfection of himself as well of his surgical stuff. At the other hand Hayley, a young gifted surgeon, has issues of her own but succeeds to gain his love which was a feat by itself since Tom's never trusted in love abandoned by people who were by default supposed to love him. Hayley's love will show him both, true love and meaningful purpose of life are possible. Tom ends up a better person with Hayley at his side. This is their "happily ever after" ending with no miracles, which is a quality by itself and a great plus of this novel.
(4 &1/2 stars)
Hayley Grey is a registar. A surgical resident at Sydney Harbor coming off a long and tiring shift. Chocolate cake is a welcome reward..
The chat turns to the Sydney Harbor's Tom Jordan, former Chief of Neurosurgery who could make things happen. Hayley is doubtful such a specimen that spectacular even exists.
Tom and Hayley meet in a blackout and we learn that Hayley has a phobia of the dark, and Tom is blind.
They discover the root of their demons. Tom was the child from the wrong side of the tracks with big dreams, which got scoffed at while growing up. The child that would have fallen through the cracks if not for two people who believed in him.
Despite everything going, Tom and Hayley find themselves falling in love. This delights 'Mum' Carol who has thought of Tom as a son ever since she her husband took Tom under their wing.
It is Carol who sets 'her' son and Hayley straight..
